to research and develop an interpretive topic appropriate for an interpretive program.
You should pick a topic (cultural or natural) that you wish to interpret on. (You must
however have it approved by the course instructor). Upon approval, you will develop a
seven-ten page “research” paper on the topic. This paper should include pertinent facts, figures,
etc, relative to your topic. Essentially you are providing the facts for your interpretive program.
While it is not the intention of this class for you do develop a research paper, this should
resemble a research paper! The more work you do here, the easier it will be later on. By seven
pages, I mean double spaced, 1-inch margins all around 12 pt Times New Roman Font. Don’t
give me a bunch of bullets. Your paper should include historical information or other
documentation that will help you deliver your program. This is your chance to develop your
theme and really dig deep into your topic. Since your chose the topic, I expect that you will have
some interest in it. A cautionary note; choose a topic that is interpretable. Don’t choose a topic
that you will have difficulty interpreting. I will assist you in choosing your topic if you wish, but
will not choose one for you. THIS IS YOUR PROGRAM, NOT MINE!!! DO NOT wait
until the last week
These are the instructions my professor gave. Think of it as a park ranger giving an interpretive program on overfishing in the 1900s in the us to a group of visitors. Don’t go too overboard but make it nice please!
