Too Tired? Too Anxious? Need More Time? We’ve got your back.
For this assignment, the student will explore the roles of leader and manager in nurse practice. This assignment asks you to identify a new technology your unit has received or one that you think may be well suited for your unit. How did or should the manager approach the training? What evidence-based practice model (refer to the models in 3380) was used or could be used upon implementation of the new technology? How was staff involved? What leadership style was used to implement the new technology or what leadership style would be best suited for implementation? Please include concepts such as conflict management, communication, teamwork, cultural competence, power, politics, staffing etc.
Students should identify a leadership style to work through this new implementation of technology as the nurse leader, and explain why he/she feels that the style applies to the role of nurse leader, and how it can be used for implementation.
The paper should be 3-4 pages in length (excluding the title and reference page), and include a well-developed introduction, body, and conclusion. Three peer-reviewed, current nursing journal articles (< 5 years), should be used to support ideas. The reference page should be in APA format along with all citations throughout the paper.
APA format should be followed. Avoid errors in spelling and grammar. Make sure that content flows logically and is fully developed. Make sure to look at the grading criteria (rubric) prior to writing your paper. Please keep the paper professional, do not include the name of the facility, unit, or manager. Write in 3rd person only. Do not use contractions. Review APA for use of abbreviations.

HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT (EXAMPLE ESSAY / DRAFT)
Introduction: The implementation of new technology in healthcare is an essential part of improving patient care and outcomes. In this essay, the focus is on exploring the roles of a nurse leader and manager in implementing new technology on their unit. The paper will identify a new technology and discuss how the manager could approach training, the evidence-based practice (EBP) model that could be used, the involvement of staff, the leadership style that was or could be used, and several other related concepts.
New Technology and its Implementation: One new technology that is well suited for healthcare units is the electronic health record (EHR). The implementation of EHR can improve the quality of care, reduce medication errors, and enhance communication among healthcare providers. The manager should approach the training by involving staff members in the implementation process. The EBP model that could be used in the implementation of EHR is the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model. The PDSA model provides a framework for continuous quality improvement.
EBP Model: The PDSA model is an EBP model that is used to implement change in healthcare. The model involves four steps: Plan, Do, Study, and Act. The Plan step includes assessing the current situation, setting goals, and creating a plan to achieve those goals. The Do step involves implementing the plan. The Study step involves evaluating the results of the plan. The Act step involves making changes based on the evaluation results.
Leadership Style: The leadership style that is best suited for implementing new technology is transformational leadership. Transformational leaders inspire and motivate their staff members to work towards a common goal. They also provide support and resources to help their staff members achieve that goal. This style of leadership can be used to implement new technology by inspiring and motivating staff members to learn the new technology and use it in their daily work.
Concepts to Include: Conflict Management: Conflict can arise during the implementation of new technology. The transformational leadership style can help to manage conflict effectively by providing support and resources to staff members.
Communication: Effective communication is essential in implementing new technology. Both verbal and non-verbal communication can be used to ensure that staff members understand the new technology.
Teamwork: Teamwork is crucial in implementing new technology. Staff members from different departments should be involved in the implementation process to ensure that all aspects of patient care are considered.
Cultural Competence: Cultural competence is essential in healthcare. The implementation of new technology should be culturally sensitive to ensure that all patients are treated with respect and dignity.
Power: Power can play a role in the implementation of new technology. The transformational leadership style can help to ensure that power is used effectively and fairly.
Politics: Politics can also play a role in the implementation of new technology. The transformational leadership style can help to ensure that politics do not interfere with the implementation process.
Staffing: Adequate staffing is crucial in implementing new technology. The manager should ensure that there are enough staff members to provide care while also implementing the new technology.
Conclusion: In conclusion, implementing new technology is an essential part of improving patient care and outcomes. The nurse leader and manager play a crucial role in the implementation process. The transformational leadership style is best suited for implementing new technology. The PDSA model is an EBP model that can be used to implement new technology effectively. The involvement of staff, effective communication, cultural competence, adequate staffing, and other related concepts are also essential in the implementation process.
