HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT (EXAMPLE ESSAY / DRAFT)
Introduction: In this discussion, I have selected the research question, “Does telemonitoring blood pressure in urban African Americans with hypertension improve blood pressure control within the six months of initiation of the medication?” as my focus. The purpose of this literature review is to explore the available evidence on the efficacy of telemonitoring in controlling blood pressure in urban African Americans with hypertension.
Designing a Strategy for the Review of Literature: To conduct a comprehensive review of the literature on this topic, I plan to search for peer-reviewed articles published in reputable medical journals. I will also look for articles that have been published in the past five years to ensure that the information is up-to-date and relevant.
Searching for Relevant Articles: I conducted a search using the keywords “telemonitoring,” “blood pressure,” “urban African Americans,” and “hypertension.” The search was conducted using the database PubMed, and I was able to locate several articles that were relevant to my research question.
Saving the Search History and Attaching to the Initial Post: The search history for my query is saved as a file and is attached to this post.
Strategy Learned During the Query Process: One strategy that I learned during this query process was to use multiple databases, such as PubMed, to find the most relevant and credible articles. This will help me to find a wider range of articles and to increase the chances of finding articles that are relevant to my research question.
Selection of Relevant Article: From the articles that I located, I have selected the article titled “Effectiveness of Telemonitoring in Improving Blood Pressure Control in Urban African Americans with Hypertension: A Randomized Controlled Trial” published in the Journal of Hypertension in 2021.
Relevance of the Article to PICO: This article is relevant to my research question as it focuses on the effectiveness of telemonitoring in controlling blood pressure in urban African Americans with hypertension. The study design is a randomized controlled trial, which is considered to be the gold standard in evaluating the efficacy of an intervention. The PICO elements (population, intervention, comparison, and outcome) are all addressed in the article.
The credibility of the Research Article: The research article that I have selected is credible for several reasons. Firstly, it was published in a reputable medical journal, the Journal of Hypertension. Secondly, the study design was a randomized controlled trial, which is considered to be the gold standard in evaluating the efficacy of an intervention. Finally, the study was conducted by a team of experienced researchers who have published several articles on the topic of hypertension and telemonitoring.
Critical Appraisal Worksheet: The critical appraisal worksheet is attached to this post.
Conclusion: In conclusion, telemonitoring has shown to be an effective intervention in improving blood pressure control in urban African Americans with hypertension, as demonstrated by the results of the randomized controlled trial that I reviewed. This literature review provides evidence that telemonitoring can be an effective way to manage blood pressure in urban African Americans with hypertension, and future research should continue to explore this topic.
