HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT (EXAMPLE ESSAY / DRAFT)
The Rise of Machines: Will Civilian Drones Reshape American Life is a film that explores the development and advancements of drone technology and its impact on society. The film highlights the many advantages and benefits of this technology, as well as the potential social and ethical implications it poses. In this paper, I will answer the following questions: How does the drone technology work and what are its advantages? What are the social and ethical implications of developing drone technology and how does it impact privacy and another issue of your choice? Finally, what is the future of drone technology and how will it continue to shape American life?
- How does the drone technology work and what are its advantages?
Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are remotely controlled or autonomous machines that can fly and perform various tasks. The technology behind drones involves the use of sensors, cameras, GPS systems, and other technologies to allow them to fly and carry out specific tasks. One of the key advantages of drones is their ability to access difficult or dangerous areas that would be impossible or hazardous for humans to reach. This can include monitoring natural disasters, performing search and rescue missions, and inspecting infrastructure, among other things. Drones are also highly maneuverable and can capture high-quality aerial footage, making them ideal for use in the film and television industry. Additionally, drones can be used for military and surveillance purposes, as well as for delivery services, which can save time and resources.
- What are the social and ethical implications of developing drone technology and how does it impact privacy and another issue of your choice?
The development of drone technology raises important social and ethical questions, particularly in terms of privacy. The use of drones equipped with cameras and other technologies can easily invade an individual’s privacy, which can lead to a violation of their rights. As noted by Anderson (2020) in the article “The Ethics of Drones,” the use of drones raises questions about the collection and use of personal data and the potential for misuse by governments and corporations.
Another issue that drones raise is their impact on public safety. Drones can potentially pose a hazard to other aircraft and to people on the ground, especially if they are operated recklessly or fall from the sky. Additionally, drones can be used for malicious purposes, such as smuggling or espionage, which can pose a threat to national security. These concerns were discussed in the textbook “Criminal Justice: A Brief Introduction” (Schmalleger, 2020) in the section on technology and crime.
- What is the future of drone technology and how will it continue to shape American life?
The future of drone technology is likely to be shaped by advances in technology and changes in regulations. The use of drones is likely to become increasingly widespread as they are used for a wider range of tasks, including delivery services and inspection services. However, the continued development of drone technology will also raise important ethical questions that need to be addressed, particularly in terms of privacy and safety.
In conclusion, the film The Rise of Machines: Will Civilian Drones Reshape American Life highlights the many benefits and advantages of drone technology, as well as the potential social and ethical implications it poses. As this technology continues to develop, it is essential that we carefully consider the impact it will have on our lives and take steps to mitigate any negative consequences.
