ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
Briefly describe a project that you have participated in yourself, or that you know of, and explain:
• why you consider that this is a project (leverage the definition of the project seen) – max 500 words;
• what kind of methodology (traditional or agile) was used to manage the project, and explain that methodology – max 500 words;
• highlight the main strengths and weaknesses of the approach as applied to the project you described – max 500 words.
HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT (EXAMPLE ESSAY / DRAFT)
Project management is the practice of organizing and managing resources to achieve specific goals within a defined timeline. One project that I participated in was the development of a mobile application for a food delivery company. This project involved creating a mobile app from scratch that would enable customers to order food from the comfort of their homes and have it delivered to them. The project had a clear goal, a defined timeline, and required the allocation of resources.
The methodology used to manage the project was the Agile approach. This methodology is focused on adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, and continuous improvement. The Agile methodology encourages close collaboration between cross-functional teams, with regular feedback and frequent iterations to improve the product. The Agile approach also emphasizes flexibility and the ability to adapt to changes as they arise.
One of the main strengths of the Agile approach was its ability to accommodate changes during the development process. As we progressed through the project, we encountered several challenges and changes that required a shift in direction. With the Agile methodology, we were able to pivot quickly and adapt to these changes. The Agile methodology also allowed for a high degree of collaboration between the development team, stakeholders, and customers. This collaboration resulted in a product that was better suited to the needs of the end-users.
One of the weaknesses of the Agile approach was the lack of a clear and defined scope. The Agile methodology is designed to accommodate changes and iterations, but this can also lead to scope creep. At times, it was difficult to determine when we had reached the endpoint of a particular feature or aspect of the app. The Agile approach also requires a high level of communication and collaboration between team members, which can be a challenge when working with remote teams.
In conclusion, the Agile approach was well-suited for the development of the food delivery app. The ability to adapt to changes and incorporate feedback from customers and stakeholders was crucial to the success of the project. However, the lack of a clear scope and the need for constant communication and collaboration presented some challenges. The project was completed on time and met the expectations of the stakeholders, which is a testament to the effectiveness of the Agile methodology.
